What Is An Out-Of-Body Experience (OBE) And Is It For Real?

What is an out-of-body experience? According to Wikipedia it’s an experience that typically involves a sensation of floating outside one’s body and in some cases, perceiving one’s physical body from a place outside of it.

Nobody can prove out-of-body experiences (OBE) is real, yet millions of people today claim to have experienced it. Ernest Hemingway, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Edgar Allen Poe, and other famous writers claimed to have had an OBE. Even Socrates had described OBE. So this phenomenon has been going on for thousands of years.

There are countless reports of people who have been operated on and had an OBE. They’ve described it as floating above their body and looking about, seeing what’s going on. Some of them recalled leaving the room and traveling down the halls to the waiting room. They even reported with extraordinary accuracy the events that had occurred during that time. But OBE isn’t a pigeon holed experience where it only happens under traumatic or near traumatic events. It can happen spontaneously like when you’re resting, mediating, or asleep.

There’s a theory that we return back to our physical body because of a silver cord attached to our astral body. If the cord is severed, the astral body moves on. My mom told me about this when I was a kid. Afterwards, I did some research on it, and she was right.

In my book, Beyond the Eyes, I wrote a scene where Paige, who is the main character, had an OBE. They say write what you know and fortunately I grew up in a family knee deep into the paranormal, so I have a lot of knowledge about it. I do realize though that it’s all conjecture, but it’s still fascinating because there’s so much we don’t know. This world and all of us are an enigma that’s been puzzling us since our existence.

OBE is a subject I think will be around for as long as we’re here. The reason why, and this woman-954793_640pixabayis just a theory, is because we’re a spirit inside a vehicle. Here’s a simple analogy that I’m sure you’ve heard of before, but is worth mentioning: Imagine going on a long road trip and being stuck in your car for hours. You start to feel uncomfortable from being in that damn vehicle for so long, and you need a break. You park the car and get out for a while to rejuvenate yourself. That’s what I think our spirit does. But again, this is just a theory of mine because I can’t prove it. I think though, all of us have had an OBE on some level, we’re just not aware of it. We mistake it for a lucid dream when really it’s much more.

As humans we can’t collect evidence from the spiritual world to bring back to us so we can wave it in the air and say, “See, we are spiritual beings, and we do take a break from our fleshly prison.” Nope, that capability is denied to us. Maybe because if it wasn’t, we’d be more concerned with that world than with our own. And then what would be the point of being here? Obviously, we’re here for a reason, right? Therefore, the spiritual door is bolted shut from our physical selves. But that’s okay, because we’re all in this together, and once the cord is finally snapped from each and every one of us, we’ll be released from our cocoon and fly off to, Never, Never, Land. 🙂
