Let’s face it, every author has highs and lows.     You get a great review on your book.   Yay!     You get a bad review, and you forget about all the good ones and yays.     You have a fabulous writing day where you’re in the ZONE and words and ideas are flowing through you and onto the keyboard. you’re on a creative high, and you do the happy Snoopy dance. Then there are days when you’re STUCK. Your creative juices has dried up, and you have been working on the same damn scene for days, maybe even weeks. you start to question if you’re in over your head, if the book is bigger than you,Read More
Legends of Deceit is in the final stages before it gets published. Yay! *does happy Snoopy dance* What are the final stages? Formatting to ebook and paperback. One last read through to check for errors, correcting them and then prepping everything for publication. It’s all time-consuming but worth it. Legends of Deceit have already been receiving rave reviews, and my editor loves the story.  Here’s what people are saying . . . I love this story so damned much!! WOW the story is so damned addicting! Holy Wowza!  OMG! I am loving this story, it has so many twists and yet has stuff happening. I am loving this story so much. Funny Short Episode!

It’s been two weeks since I posted in here because I’ve been busy keeping tabs on my dad and working with my editor, and so forth. Anyway, I wanted to share this funny short episode with you. Stephanie Keefer who is my voice actress for Ameerah’s audio book and did an excellent job, btw, performs in this skit. She’s the pretty brunette who plays the mom. Check it out:   If you want to listen to a sample of Ameerah’s audio book, you can here: Here’s what people are saying about Ameerah’s audio book:   It was so good. I wanted to keep listening to it. It was like listening to a movie. You could visualize it asRead More
I’ve been wondering something since my dad had his stroke. Can our spirit leave this world if it chooses to move on? Let’s take Debbie Reynolds for instance. Right after Carrie Fisher died, Debbie had a lengthy conversation with her son. She told him it wasn’t supposed to happen this way, and she loved him very much, but she wanted to be with Carrie. Shortly after their talk, she died. Another story I read last week was about a couple who was married for like I think 65 years. The wife died, then hours later the husband passed on. I’m sure you’ve heard of similar stories where a couple has been together for years and when one leaves this world,Read More

My Dad Had A Stroke.

It’s been a difficult and worrisome week. My dad had a stroke last week. Thankfully, it wasn’t a major one, but now I have the fear this is a prelude to him having a full-blown one, and we’ll lose him. 🙁 My dad lives in Ohio. I live in rural North Dakota. My older sister (Angel) and her husband moved to Ohio from Arizona (we grew up there) last year. They’re living with my dad, so he’s not alone. My step-mother died in December of 2015. Since her passing, my dad has had a difficult time getting through daily life without her. He misses her. You see, once upon a time ago, they were high school sweethearts. He asked herRead More

Happy World Book Day!

Today is the day to celebrate authors, illustrators, books, and reading. Children are encouraged to read a book and discover the pleasures of getting lost in a story. They’re given the opportunity to have their own book and empower themselves by nurturing their imaginations and building their literary skills. They’re getting introduced into the world of literature.  Awesome! Did you know today is William Shakespeare’s birthday? He was born April 23, 1564. Did you know he also died on his birthday in 1616? Crazy, huh? So it’s fitting to have World Book Day today. However, in the UK and Ireland, it was on March 2nd. The children got to dress up as their favorite literary character. HowRead More
Who needs a professional and affordable editor? Awesome! I have one to tell you about. He’s great, and he’s my editor. Yes, I’m pimping my editor, but it’s because you need to know about him. Seriously. He’s been with me since the beginning of my author journey. His name is Chase. He has loads of experience. You can check out his website to read about his background and the testimonies from other authors here: Chase used to be a teacher and it shows when he’s editing my manuscripts because throughout the process when he comes across errors I’ve made, he explains them to me, then shows me how to fix them which I love and appreciate. Happiness Is . . .

I’m reblogging this post from my other blog (Wandering Thoughts of A Writer) because I want to share this with you as well. Happiness is when you have readers reading your manuscript (Legends of Deceit) before it goes to the editor, and they say these things about the story . . . I love this story so damned much!! WOW the story is so damned addicting! Holy wowza! OMG I am loving this story, it has so many twists and yet has stuff happening. I am loving this story so much. I am loving the story, wow! I’m in love with everything about it, from the setting, the characters and the story…..Fan-freakin-tastic!!!! This book REALLY IS tough to get away from. I LOVED it. IRead More

What Is A Beta Reader?

I’m reblogging this from an old post on my other blog, because I’ve been crazy busy and this is where my upcoming book Legends of Deceit is at right now. My beta readers have the manuscript, and they’re loving the story. 🙂 Yay! After this process, LOD will go to my editor. Here’s the post: Once upon a time ago, I had no clue what a beta reader was. What the hell are they? I never even heard of the term, until I entered the literary world. According to Wikipedia, a beta reader is a non-professional reader who reads a written work, generally fiction, with the intent of looking over the material to find and improve elements such as grammarRead More
Book trailers are cool. I love them, but is it really worth an author’s time to create one? Do they actually help sell books? I personally think if the author does have the time and has fun doing it, she should. The reason why I think so is because it’s something else an author can use to promote her book(s). On the matter of if they help sell more books . . . I don’t know. I think it depends on how an author uses her book trailer to get the word out. There are lots of programs to use to create one. I’m not going to lie, I suck at technology. Years ago I used a program off ofRead More
It was a beautiful day today in rural North Dakota. The temp. was 55 degrees. Perfect. The hubster and I decided to go target shooting. Here I am shooting a Mossberg MVP. It’s a sweet rifle. I nailed the target at 100 yards. I should have taken a picture of it, but totally spaced it. I think my mind was on getting back to line editing Legends of Deceit. The author mind almost never quits. Just sayin’.  Anyway, I haven’t shot a gun in 10 years. When we lived in Arizona, we used to go target shooting almost every weekend. We went to the shooting range or out in the woods, but then we moved to North Dakota, and IRead More

Take a Chance

I’ve been pondering over what to blog about. I spoke to a fan of mine, and she said to write about myself. She as a reader loves to learn things about her favorite author, so I decided to tell you about a humongous life changing decision me and my husband made and acted upon eleven years ago.  We were living in Prescott Valley Arizona that once upon a time ago, was a wonderful place to live, but then it started growing. The crime rate went through the roof, people were building houses everywhere, and the once beautiful landscape was now filled with businesses. The forest was trashed and meth became a huge problem. Our small town was turning into aRead More
Today is the day a nineteen-year-old young man is going to be put to rest. His name is Carson Roney. He was the type of person who would give the shirt off his back for you. His future plans were to become a doctor, practice in our small community, and farm on the side. Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen. Last Saturday night, Carson was riding in a vehicle with two of his friends. The driver was going 70 miles an hour over a bridge. Her car hit a patch of ice, spun and hit a guardrail. Both the driver and Carson died. Our hearts are heavy with this loss. I personally didn’t know him; however, I knew he wasRead More
From Bryn Donovan’s site                 Creating a convincing setting in a story, or a sense of time and place, helps readers escape to a whole new dimension. There are a lot of articles out there with advice on how to research a historical novel, and different writers approach it differently. If you’re writing a Victorian novel, this is just one quick way to get inspired. Victorian romances are popular, and it’s also a common setting for mystery novels. Victorian details can also help with many steampunk novels. My first published novel was set in Victorian England, and I remember how much time it took to think about and research small details. I’m breakingRead More
Hey, everyone! I thought I’d start our week out with an awesome giveaway. I’m also running this on my other blog so you can always enter there too. 😉 This is the original book cover I’m giving away. Isn’t her eyes captivating?  Blurb: Sometimes even the dead seek salvation.   In 1925, eighteen-year-old Ameerah Arrowood is murdered in an insane asylum. She finds herself transported to a dreary realm that turns out to be a recruiting station for the dark spirits. With animosity in her heart toward humanity, she decides to join them. For the next ninety years, Ameerah possesses soulless humans, living a hedonistic, mischievous and sometimes vengeful existence, but now she’s seeking salvation so she can crossover andRead More
Okay, peeps. Let’s face it. Writing a blurb is a pain-in-the-ass. All my author friends agree. It’s tough to condense a whole story into a few paragraphs and write it in such a way that it’s captivating. Like many authors I know, I struggle with writing blurbs which brings me here. Months ago, I wrote one for my book, Legends of Deceit, which will be released this year. I’m going to share it with you and would like to know what you think about it. It’s an unedited rough draft, so no judgments. LOL  Legends of Deceit 22-year-old sassy and headstrong Haven Evergreen has always dreamed of a fantastical land where a unicorn freely roams, fairies like to have aRead More
You can now listen to Ameerah’s story on audio. Woot! You can listen to a sample first and see what you think. So far the peeps who have loves it. Stephanie Keefer narrated it. She’s great. If you listen to the teaser you’ll hear what an excellent job she did with the Irish accent that I wasn’t sure she’d be able to pull off, but she did. Good News!

I have some good news. Ameerah is being created as an audio book. Yay! The voice actress is great. Her name is Stephanie Keefer. I love working with her, and we make a good team. Ameerah’s dark spirit recruiter, Aidan, is Irish. I wasn’t sure if Stephanie could pull off an Irish accent, but she did and quite well I might add. We’re halfway through with production, and I have to tell ya, it’s fun and surreal to listen to each chapter Stephanie sends me to approve. She plays out the characters so it’s not in a boring, yawn-worthy monotone voice where it’ll put you to sleep. Nope. It’s fun and entertaining. Anyway, if you haven’t read Ameerah, you mightRead More

Funny Book Trailer

Almost three years ago, The Devil’s Third was published. Yeah, it’s been that long. Can you believe it? It’s the third book in my Beyond the Eyes trilogy. Then I wrote the companion to the trilogy called, Tangled Roots which is on sale, btw. Anyway, The Devil’s Third won’t be the last book in this trilogy which will not be a trilogy anymore . . . I guess it would be a saga, wouldn’t it? The characters in the trilogy still have many adventures ahead of them. If you’ve read The Devil’s Third or all three books for that matter, you’ll know what I’m talking about. I created a whole new mythology that could be plausible. It explains why shit happensRead More
Okay gals and gents, I have something cool to share with you . . . a peek at what the cover to my new book called Legends of Deceit is going to look like. I think I’m going to have the color of the font be a little bit darker, though, but other than that check it out. This cover happened by accident, btw. I asked a talented gal to create a teaser poster for me, and she came up with this. We both were like, “Omg, this would make a damn good cover.” So I decided to use this as a cover instead of a teaser. To get an idea of what the story is about, here’s a roughRead More

Hello Fall. I’ve Missed You!

I know it’s been a few weeks since I posted here. My in-laws came to visit us for 8 days, and then it took two weeks to get life back to normal. Finally, I’m starting to get my groove back. 🙂 Anyway, last weekend my husband and I took a road trip to Fort Ransom. It’s forty-five minutes away from us. We always try to go there at the beginning of fall to see the leaves change colors. Fort Ransom is a quaint small woodsy town. We hiked in the woods, and it was wonderful. I don’t know about you, but I love the woods and forest. It makes me happy, and I’d love to live in them. I tookRead More

For a year or so, my husband had been bugging me to write Ameerah. She’s a character who has made appearances in the last two books in my Beyond the Eyes trilogy. Her story is a standalone, meaning you can read it without ever having read the BTE books. It’s her tale about how she became a dark spirit who can dwell inside soulless humans and live whatever life she desires. If she wants to experience being a hot blonde chick with loads of money, she can. If she wants to drink, smoke, party, have mind-blowing sex, she can and then leave the vessel she possessed. I’m writing a new Top Secret story at the present moment, and it’s a challenge for me because the tale takes place in a realm different, yet similar to ours. I have to do a lot of research to get the details and mental visuals right. When I feel overwhelmed, I sometimes think of what Yoda said to Luke. Then I say to myself, “I can do this.” I know I can, and I am. 🙂 So if you’re ever feeling down about the whole writing process, marketing, sales or anything at all—it doesn’t have to pertain to the literary world—just remember what our wise little friend here says.  Read More

The Fears Of An Author

We all have our fears, but let me tell ya, being an author is some scary shit. Seriously. The good thing is I know I’m not alone. I think all authors have the same fears: 1.) What if my writing sucks? 2.) Maybe I’m not good enough. 3.) Will anyone even read my book? 4.) What if I don’t get any sales and my family and friends ask me about it? I’d feel like a loser if they knew the truth. 5.) What if people hates my story? 6.) Omg, what am I going to do if I get a bad review and someone totally trashes what I wrote and me? Why put your work and self out into theRead More
I was recently interviewed and asked how I came up with my stories. In my first published book Beyond the Eyes and the four following ones, there are humans born without a soul and dark spirits can inhabit them and by doing so, they can experience whatever they desire while being in the flesh. It’s pretty cool. How did I come up with the concept? Well, I’d always wondered if there were people who didn’t have a soul because I’d seen more than a few peeps in my life that when I looked into their eyes there was no spark, no life, zero, zilch, nada. What really spooked me was when I was working at a pediatric clinic. A mother broughtRead More
This video and song remind me of a scene in my Beyond the Eyes book. It’s in chapter five when Paige wants to forget about her life for a while, so she goes to a bar that allows teenagers in. You see, seventeen-year-old Paige has been receiving cryptic premonitions from a phantom voice since she was four, and after she receives a cryptic death message about herself, bizarre things begin to happen to her. Her life takes on a Twilight Zonish perplexity that her logical mind can’t solve. It’s bad enough she’s had to hide these premonitions for years, feigning normalcy, but now she doesn’t know what the hell is going on and has nobody to turn to. But then sheRead More

Creating or choosing a book cover for your story is fun, exciting, and hard work. It’s fun because you can play around with the ideas you have and then bring one of them to fruition so the world can literally see your vision. It’s exciting because it represents the story you wrote. You created something out of nothing, and that’s pretty damn cool. It’s hard work because of the process it takes to make it happen. When you decide on a cover for your book, there’s one major mistake you don’t want to make: Don’t choose or create a cover that doesn’t fit the genre your story is in—even if you fall in love with it. I’m going to showRead More

Past and Present Self.

Have you guys seen this video? I’m sure some of you have, but it’s worth watching again. Check it out.   So what would your twelve-year-old self ask your future self? I was thinking about this after I watched that cute video and here’s what came to mind: My 12-year-old self: “Will I ever get braces?” (Note: I had a humongous overbite and sometimes kids would make fun of me. In fact, I’d get into fights defending myself.) Me now: “Yes, you will. So don’t worry kiddo. I know it’s hard now, and you feel awkward all the time, but it’ll all workout.” My 12-year-old self: “Will I find true love?” Me now: “Yes, and it’ll be more than whatRead More
How do you write a compelling blurb? First and foremost, you need to hook the reader, just like when you write a query and a synopsis. Easy, peasy, right? The best way to hook the reader is with a logline and/or first sentence. A logline is one or two sentences used to describe the essence and concept of your story. Screenwriters have to write a logline for their screenplays because directors, agents, and producers, usually will not read beyond the logline unless it grabs their attention. It does take a lot of practice to write a logline and a blurb for that matter. If you find yourself getting frustrated, put it away for a day or two, and then go back toRead More
At the end of last December, my husband and I were bragging about not being sick in a long time. We were totally cocky about it. Guess what? In January, we both got really sick, and I’m sick again.       I wish my cat Church would take care of me like that. I’ve been running a temp. since last Thursday. I feel awful. Why oh why did we say we never get sick? We jinx ourselves. I’ve learned my lesson. I’ll never do that again. Ameerah is getting great reviews and readers are urging me to get this story made into a movie. I’m flattered. I told them I’ll see what I can do to make it happen, but in the meantime, the world needs to know about Ameerah. So who is Ameerah and what’s the story about? I’m a visual person so I’m going to tell you through pictures and teasers.         Like Louis in Interview with the Vampire, Ameerah tells her story on why and how she became a dark spirit who can possess soullessRead More
Shut-In by Lori Lesko is a great book. Omg, the story kept me guessing and on my toes throughout the whole thing. The tale sort of reminds me of The Twilight Zone. It’s brilliant in the sense that you have no idea what’s really going on. Daisy is the main character in this inventive story. I love her relationship with her older brother Chuck. They’re close. Daisy has several debilitating illnesses that hinder her from leading a normal life. She’s wheelchair bound and refuses to leave her small apartment due to her health problems. Chuck has a well-paying job and helps take care of Daisy. He buys her groceries and checks in on her. Daisy spends her days staring outRead More

Interview with a Dark Spirit.

You’re not going to believe this, but I was able to get an interview with the one and only Ameerah. Of course, she already had told me her story, so I didn’t think she’d be up for an interview. Why? Well . . . because at the moment she’s not too fond of humans, that’s why. How did it happen? It was the other night. I was talking to my dad on the phone. He lives in Ohio. I live in North Dakota. He’s still having a hard time with my step-mother’s sudden death, and I’ve been checking in on him. Anyway, ten minutes after I hung up the phone, no shit, it rang. I didn’t recognize the number onRead More

Who is #Ameerah Arrowood?

I’m behind in these posts you guys because there was a sudden death in my family. I hope you’re still with me. I can’t wrap my head around the loss in my family, but I’m still here. I must continue on and do the best I can to make my life count. So who is Ameerah Arrowood? Who Is #Ameerah Arrowood?

If you have been following these posts, you know that Ameerah was the only child born into a prominent family in 1907. In 1925, she decided to rebel against her high-hat, prejudice parents and show them who she really was . . .  a flapper gal. In the summer of 1925, when her parents were away on a business trip, Ameerah had the time of her life. She was offered a job as the head dancer at a speakeasy, and she fell in love in an unconventional way. You’ll have to read the story to find out. 😉 She loved to dance, drink, smoke, and have a good time.         Ameerah had two deep dark secrets thatRead More

Who Is #Ameerah Arrowood?

If you’ve been following the weekly post of Ameerah, so you can get acquainted with her before her story is released, here’s the next one. In 1925, Ameerah got the opportunity of a lifetime—to be the head dancer at a speakeasy in New York City. She was in love and had a bright future ahead of her. Her favorite cocktail was the tuxedo # 2. Mixing Instructions: Mix ingredients together in a shaker (except cherry garnish). Shake vigorously for 35 seconds. Strain and pour into martini glass. Add cherry garnish and serve. I got this picture and recipe from The Marketing Dame. Right when Ameerah was about to spread her wings and live the life she desired, she was double-crossed.Read More

#Ameerah Arrowood 1925

Ameerah was having the time of her life during the summer of 1925 when her high-hat parents were out of state on business. She was a flapper gal who drank, smoked, and loved to dance. She had two deep dark secrets that in the end ruined her and was used as ammunition to wrongfully commit her to an insane asylum where horrible things were done to her. Before the light was taken from Ameerah, plunging her into the dark side of humanity, she experienced for the first time in her life, happiness and true love. Of course, all of this took place during prohibition where there were hidden illegal drinking nightclubs that people flocked to. The speakeasy. It was calledRead More
Ameerah was born in 1907 in Manhattan, New York. She was the only child born to a prominent family. Her parents were elitist high-hats, who only cared about their social status. In 1925, at the age of eighteen, she finally had enough of them treating her like a puppet. She detested their snobbish attitudes and rebelled against them.   Ameerah was a flapper gal. She drank, she smoked and was the best hoofer in town. Because she knew how to dance so well, she was offered a job at a speakeasy, making a lot of dough. Of course, this was during prohibition when drinking was illegal and women who smoked were frowned upon. Ameerah didn’t give a shit about that. SomeRead More

I have a big fat cat named Church, after the cat in Stephen King’s book Pet Sematary. He’s a source of amusement in my household. Last Friday, I bought a hat for him. It’s too big for his little head, but it’s so damn cute on him and frickin’ hilarious. LMAO. He was a good sport, and later on I gave him a treat. 🙂     Then, last Saturday, as I was going through our Christmas decorations, I found antlers I had bought Church to wear last year. Again, he was a good sport. LOL   I was tempted to buy him a camo vest to wear, but I stopped myself . . . for now. I hope everyoneRead More

Favorite Commercials

Happy Friday, everyone! I would have posted something here sooner, but I was having problems getting into my WordPress site. It annoys me. I honestly don’t even know if anyone is reading my post or if I have followers. This is way different than Blogger. However, I love my website, so I’ll keep it, even if I’m the only one who reads it. Oh, btw, Ameerah is almost done with edits. YAY! More information on her coming in the near future. I think you’ll love it. 🙂 Anyway, I was thinking about my favorite commercials, and I wanted to share them with you. I’m a Star Wars nerd, but of the original Star Wars. I’m not a fan of theRead More

Happy Veterans Day

I know it’s been over a week since I posted something, but I’ve been crazy busy with edits and updates. Anyway, I wanted to personally thank all the honorable vets out there–dead and alive–for serving our country and protecting our freedom. Words cannot express how much I appreciate you. Big ((HUGS)) to you.         HAPPY VETERANS DAY!! Read More
I can’t speak for all writers, but this is what it’s like for me as an author. I have a loud mind. Stephen King once said quiet people have loud minds. I don’t know. I mean, I’m quiet when I have nothing to say, and I don’t ever have the need to hijack people’s conversations . . . well, unless they say something that pisses me off. But yeah, I have a loud mind. My thoughts constantly scatter. I can have a conversation with my husband and think of other things at the same time. Where I get into trouble is when he’s telling me something I’m not in the least bit interested in, I’ll focus on my other thoughts,Read More

Hello world!

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start writing!Read More
This is going to be a short post ladies and gents, because I’m behind in my deadlines, and Ameerah is going through edits right now. Anyway, here are some reasons why you shouldn’t stop to edit or revise while you’re writing your story . . . 1.) No worries. If you fret about the punctuation or if a sentence isn’t structured correctly, it’s going to hinder your productivity in writing your tale. If you don’t concern yourself with those things, you’ll finish the rough draft in no time. 2.) If you write freely, I believe your muse will pop up more frequently and surprise you with a new character, a new plot twist, or an obscure detail that you never evenRead More

Men In Black. Are They Real?

As some of you know, I grew up in a family that dealt with the paranormal. My dad is the logical one, my mom–not so much. My mom tended to blur the lines between reality and fantasy. As a child I was lolled to sleep not with stories of children flying to a distant land where they never grew up and pirates roamed the seas. No. Instead, my bedtime stories were of men in black, aliens, spirits, parallel universes, and astral travel. This morning, I was sitting on my porch in my sweats enjoying the cool breeze, the sounds of the trees rustling around me, and the smell of autumn in the air. A tall man in black caught my eyes. He wasRead More
If you don’t know what a Ouija board is, then you’ve been living under a rock. Everyone knows what a Ouija board is–at least I think everyone does. But if you don’t, I’ll tell ya . . . Well, I’ll have Wikipedia tell ya: The Ouija sometimes also known as a spirit board  or talking board, is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0–9, the words “yes”, “no”, “hello” (occasionally), and “goodbye”, along with various symbols and graphics. It uses a planchette (small heart-shaped piece of wood or plastic) as a movable indicator to indicate a spirit’s message by spelling it out on the board during a séance . Participants place their fingers on the planchette, and it isRead More
What is an out-of-body experience? According to Wikipedia it’s an experience that typically involves a sensation of floating outside one’s body and in some cases, perceiving one’s physical body from a place outside of it. Nobody can prove out-of-body experiences (OBE) is real, yet millions of people today claim to have experienced it. Ernest Hemingway, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Edgar Allen Poe, and other famous writers claimed to have had an OBE. Even Socrates had described OBE. So this phenomenon has been going on for thousands of years. There are countless reports of people who have been operated on and had an OBE. They’ve described it as floating above their body and looking about, seeing what’s going on. Some of them recalledRead More
You know the old saying: Don’t judge a book by its cover? We shouldn’t judge, but we do. It’s human nature to judge what we see, so it stands to reason why an awesome, professional book cover is important to have. People gravitate to things that are pleasing to the eye. That’s just how it is. It’s the truth. My first cover for Beyond the Eyes is dark. I’ve had quite a few people tell me how much they loved it, but . . . BUT, the image shouted horror instead of YA paranormal/fantasy. I believe I lost sales because of it. At the time of creating the cover, I was a complete virgin. I didn’t have a clue aboutRead More

Cover Reveal! Eeep!

My Beyond the Eyes trilogy is in the process of getting a makeover–updates and shiny, brand new covers. Why? Because my original book covers screams horror instead of YA paranormal fantasy. My trilogy is not horror. Anyway, check out the new cover for Beyond the Eyes. Cool, huh? Next up will be Dark Spirits’ makeover. My cover artist will be working on that soon. Btw, because I love my readers, Beyond the Eyes is #free. Click on the cover, and it’ll bring you straight to Amazon. I will be doing a post in the future about book covers, so stay tuned. 😉   HAPPY FRIDAY! Have a wonderful weekend.Read More
Heads up! Dark Spirits is on sale for a limited time. For less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks, you can get this cool book. Here are what readers have been saying about it . . . Again, I was mesmerized. I read until the pages ran out of ink. Such an intense but enjoyable read. I just want to shake Paige at times, but then I remember she has only just turned 18. This in itself shows what a great author Rebekkah Ford is. She just keeps getting better and better.   Okay, I can’t say it enough. Rebekkah Ford rocks when it comes to her Beyond the Eyes series. Dark Spirits is a great sequel bookRead More

Does #Money Buy #Happiness?

The other day, Kevin (hubby) and I were talking about money. Does it buy happiness? Here’s what we came up with . . . It all depends upon the situation. It most cases it doesn’t. Yeah, it would totally rock to win the lottery and quit your day job, but most people who win the lottery end up in bankruptcy. That’s a proven fact. The same goes for people who inherit money or are born into it. Yeah, they live a luxurious life that most people envy, however, they’re not happy. Not truly happy, that is. They don’t know who their real friends are, and they’re floating through this false life where honestly there’s an empty hole inside themselves. TheyRead More
But let’s not start jumping up and down just yet, because if you’re an #author, you know this is be true. I still have a lot of work ahead of me. Right now, I’m following a well known rule in the literary world. Do you know what that is? Oh, I’m sure you do, but I’ll mention it anyway . . . After an author writes her first draft, she needs to put the manuscript away for a while. The suggested time is one to two months. I’m not waiting that long. LOL. The reason for this rule is so when the writer goes back to her story to revise and edit it, she does it with fresh eyes. It’sRead More

Writing Blurbs Suck

I have to write a blurb for my next book Ameerah, and I’m not going to lie, I hate writing blurbs. They suck to write. There are websites that tell you how to write one, but it doesn’t make it any easier. There’s this one site I came across that has a formula on how to write them. Here’s the formula: 1.) Situation 2.) Problem 3.) Hopeful Possibility 4.) Mood Okay, that’s cool and all, but it still sucks to write one. I mean, you have to condense your whole story into a few or less paragraphs, that’s supposed to capture the reader’s interest. It’s hard to do, and my author friends feel the same way. I think it’s muchRead More
Are you an author who will be releasing your novel in the future? Would you like to create more buzz and gain some readers for your book? A Facebook book release party can help you get the word out about your new release and generate excitement for the story you created. If anything, it’s a chance for you to build a relationship with readers and to form new friendships and contacts. I’ve met some awesome peeps and have gain new readers and followers with every Facebook party I’ve done. How do you create a book release bash on Facebook? Here’s how . . . On Facebook, to the left of your screen is an “event” icon. You need to clickRead More
Every artist has received bad reviews. I don’t care who you are. If you’re an artist—unknown or well known—there will be people who will bash your work. As an author, I knew at one point or another, someone would trash my story. When I was writing Beyond the Eyes, I was well aware that the main character Paige, who is an emotional, heartbroken 17-year-old, would annoy some readers, because she cries quite a bit. I created her character that way to give her room to grow, which she does throughout the trilogy. I was also well aware that I might get some grief for having Paige and Nathan fall in love rather quickly and for Paige losing her virginity toRead More

It takes a lot of balls to be a published author. I’m not kidding. Not only are you putting yourself out there to be ridiculed, but you’re also going to make mistakes and one of them might bite you in the ass. So do you have the balls to say, fuck it, I’m going to write and publish my book anyway? You’re damn right. That’s your winner self.                   If writing stories is your passion, and you’ve always wanted to have a book published, then go for it! I’m not going to bullshit you. It’s scary as hell to put yourself out there into the world. There are some assholes who loveRead More
Loser self 1.) I’m sick of this shit! I hate my life! Why go on? 2.) Why work my ass off and keep trying when I don’t see any results? 3.) What’s the point of this life? I’m sick and tired of the same thing every frickin’ day. Bleh! 4.) People are going to make fun of me if I open up my own business, because I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. 5.) What if my business fails? 6.) What if my writing and story sucks? It’s been my dream to write fiction, but I’m probably not good enough. 7.) I’m scared that people are going to trash my book. I’ll be so humiliated. Maybe I shouldn’t getRead More
My Facebook bestie Tarnya is from England. Her daughter Destiny had to write a report on the rainforest. What she writes is hilarious, because it shows her daughter’s snarky, sense of humor. Keep in mind, she’s only eleven. I had to share this with you. I find it quite amusing. 🙂  Read More
Did you create your character sketch? Did you come up with some mannerisms and habits? Does your character have a signature gesture or a unique quality? Good. If not, what are you waiting for?   Part three is the last post on this subject . . . at least for now. In the future I might expand on this.   Know your characters inside and out. Your character sketch will help you with this, but you need to know your character’s backstory and everything about him. This will help you get inside his head, and before you know it, he’ll be talking to you. Sometimes he won’t even leave you alone. Seriously.     Your characters should be based onRead More
So did you create a character sketch for all of your characters . . . or at least a couple of them? Good. Let’s expand on the character sketch a bit. Idiosyncrasy. Each and every one of us has our own mannerism and habits that signify our individuality. I say cool a lot, I narrate the things I’m planning on doing, I eat dinner every night between 5 and 6, I do my grocery shopping and errands on Saturday mornings, I play with my thumb ring. Do you see where I’m getting at? Our characters need to have their own mannerisms to make them more believable. Remember though, you have to be consistent throughout your manuscript. If you haveRead More
Characters breathes life into stories, so it’s important to not write one dimensional characters. You want your readers to be emotionally invested in them, maybe even discover a new book boyfriend that you created, developed, and wrote into your tale. How cool would that be? This post is part one on how to create believable characters. First thing you need to do is to decide what type of character you want to create for your story and what role he or she will play. Round one is a character sketch. You can print this if you like. I spaced each one out to give you room to write. Have fun. 🙂   Character Sketch   Name:   Age:  Read More
My husband is from England. While growing up, he was carted back and forth from England to America. Sadly, he purposely lost his sexy accent because his peers kept asking him to speak so they could hear him talk. Yes, I think the British accent is quite sexy. Sometimes, on rare occasions his accents peeks through. 🙂 I also have a fan of my books, who is now a dear friend of mine. She lives in England. When I saw this poster, it cracked me up, because I’m an American, yet I have British people in my life who I adore.Read More

The #Writer’s Face

I saw this on Facebook and had to share it with you.  If you’re an author, I’m sure you can relate to this. If you’re not, now you know what we go through. LOL. I’m in phase one at the moment. #amwriting Ameerah’s story. Read More
What the heck is a beta reader? Years ago, I asked that same question. I’d never heard of that term before, until I decided to turn my stories into novels. A beta reader reads your manuscript before it’s published and gives you valuable feedback on your story. They’ll point out plot holes, inconsistencies, errors, and will tell you how they feel about the tale. I love my beta readers. They’re my helping angels, and I appreciate them. Why do I even need a beta reader? I mean, I have an editor who would point all those things out to me and would tell me if my story sucked.   I’ll tell ya why. You need more eyes on your manuscript. I’veRead More
